Disabled children from ethnic
communities at risk

Children with disabilities from minority ethnic communities are at higher risk of missing out if providers don’t work together to raise funds and co-ordinate what they do.

This was the concern from the Children & Young People’s Providers Forum, who met to explore how voluntary, community and public sectors could achieve better outcomes for disabled children in Hackney.

Discussions came after recent reductions in short breaks grants and a Scrutiny Committee report which recommended:

  •  increased communication about what services are on offerto disabled children from all sectors
  • raising funds and maximisingjoint funding opportunities. Mainstream providers acrosssectors need to re-packagewhat they do to include childrenwith disabilities.

CYPPF Co-ordinator Kristine said: “We’re looking at a date to bring people who offer services to disabled children together so we can co-ordinate what we’re doing. Working with disabled children in Hackney? Contact me and we’ll get you linked in to this work.”
