Improved Services for BAMER Communities In Hackney
BEMWG is delighted to announce that in these difficult financial times we were able to successfully attract more funding that will help us better serve our members and Hackney residents.
We have secured funding from:
• Lloyds TSB for 2 years to run a community advocacy project enabling us to reach individuals at grass root level.
• Awards For All to produce an Handbook “Practical Health and social care Guide” in order to tackle some of the issues facing BAMER Communities like Malaria and TB, and to encourage BAMER communities to register on the bone marrow register.
Such achievements reflect that different funders believe in BEMWG's aims and objectives, recognise its efforts in tackling health inequalities and the difference it’s making on the ground for BAMER health and wellbeing. These grants are a life line for BEMWG's existence after Hackney PCT withdrew all its funding. They have saved BEMWG from closure at least for the time being. This also shows that BEMWG is bringing money from outside the borough into it in order to help deliver better services for BAMER communities. Such small projects are vital to help reduce health and social care inequalities.
BEMWG also recently recieved a CEN Strategic network grant to advance their work.
