Benefits Issues

Between the Olympics and Paralympic Games there is a period when the workforce is not required and will not be paid.  Jobcentre Plus has set up a unit to address issues raised by the games and will hopefully set up a rapid reclaim system, although the details of how this situation will be managed has not been finalised. Other non-JCP benefits will be affected as well, the details of how to address these other issues haven’t been finalised yet either.

Accreditation Issues

Accreditation is a Home Office security check required for employees. If an applicant fails the security check there is no system of appeal and they are not told what caused them to fail. LOCOG assured the network that having a criminal record would not automatically exclude applicants, rather it would depend on the nature of the conviction. They informed us that accreditation is geared towards identifying people with links to groups the government classifies as terrorist organisations. No list of reasons for failing accreditation has or will be released, but please see the accreditation factsheet for more information.
